This CD for Windows™ (except 64-bit computers) features information for over 500 native California plants, each with two beautiful images - a close up of the flower and one of the plant or flower cluster. Flowers can be selected by plant family, by flower color, and by habitat type. Includes an index of common and Latin names. Hear the pronunciation of every Latin name, and view 4 different flowers on screen at once. A text is provided for each plant describing the growth form, size, habitat, bloom period, elevation range and page references in useful floras. Collections of images and texts can be stored in bookmarks.

Use the Index to look up plants by Latin and common names (and synonyms). Use the Selector to look up plants by family, by flower color, by geographic area (by flower color), and by habitat type. Further information about geographic areas and habitat types are included in the program.

There are over 6,000 kinds of plants known to occur in California. Over 500 of some of the most beautiful are included on this CD, most of which have both close-up images of the flower as well as full plant images. There are over 100 wildflower species shown from each of the eight geographic areas, most with over 200.

Central Western California – 239

The elevation ranges are based on The Jepson Manual, and in converting to feet, were rounded to the nearest 50'. The bloom period is based on A Flora of Southern California and A California Flora and Supplement. The brief plant descriptions and habitat information were compiled and condensed from The Jepson Manual, A Flora of Southern California, A California Flora and Supplement and Desert Wild Flowers.

The numbers after the references listed for each species refer to page number for text description (bold), page and key letter for illustration (in italics), and for Desert Wild Flowers, the plant number follows the # sign.
